The sons of his uncles and their noble progeny ﷺ
The sons of his uncle Abu Talib
Abu Talib was the Prophet's ﷺ uncle and his guardian. He had four sons: Talib, Aqil, Ja'far, and Ali, may Allah be pleased with them. Ja'far ibn Abu Talib, may Allah be pleased with him, was nicknamed al-Tayyār ('the one who flies') because Allah replaced his severed hands on the day of Mu'tah with wings by which he flies in Paradise. As for Ali ibn Abi Talib, may Allah be pleased with him, he was the fourth of the Rightly Guided Caliphs and the husband of Lady Fatima al-Zahra.
- Talib — the eldest son of Abu Talib
- Aqil ibn Abi Talib — embraced Islam after the Conquest
- Ja'far al-Tayyār — the one with wings in Paradise, martyred at the Battle of Mu'tah
- Ali ibn Abi Talib — the fourth of the Rightly Guided Caliphs, husband of Fatima al-Zahra
- Fakhtah (Umm Hani) — a daughter of Abu Talib to whom the polytheists sought refuge on the day of the Conquest
The sons of his uncle al-Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him
Al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib was the Prophet's ﷺ uncle and the leader of Banu Hashim in his time. He embraced Islam shortly before the Conquest. He had nine sons, the most prominent of whom were al-Fadl — after whom his father was given the kunyah 'Abu al-Fadl' — and Abdullah, the learned scholar about whom the Prophet ﷺ said, 'O Allah, grant him understanding of the religion and teach him its interpretation.' He became the most learned of the Companions in tafsir (Qur'anic exegesis).
- Al-Fadl ibn al-Abbas — the son after whom his father was given the kunyah 'Abu al-Fadl'
- Abdullah ibn al-Abbas — the scholar of the Ummah and interpreter of the Qur'an; the Prophet ﷺ prayed for him to be granted deep understanding in religion
- Ubayd Allah, Ma'bad, Qutham, 'Abd al-Rahman, al-Harith, Kathir, and Tamam
The sons of his uncle Hamza and the descendants of Ja'far al-Tayyār
Hamza ibn Abd al-Muttalib, may Allah be pleased with him, 'the Lion of Allah and the Lion of His Messenger.' He was martyred on the day of Uhud and the Prophet ﷺ wept for him greatly. Ja'far al-Tayyār's three sons were Abdullah, Muhammad, and 'Awn; their mother was Lady Asma bint Umays, may Allah be pleased with her.
- Amarah ibn Hamza, Ya'la ibn Hamza, and Fatima bint Hamza
- Abdullah ibn Ja'far al-Tayyār — the generous nobleman known for his munificence
- Muhammad ibn Ja'far al-Tayyār
- 'Awn ibn Ja'far al-Tayyār
