Chapter One: Faith and Revelation

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Avoid the seven destructive sins: associating partners with Allah, sorcery, killing a soul which Allah has made unlawful except by right, consuming usury (riba), consuming the wealth of the orphan, fleeing (turning away) on the day of battle, and slandering chaste, unaware, believing women.'

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Do you see this woman who is throwing her child into the fire?' We said, 'No, by Allah.' He said, 'Allah is more merciful to His servants than she is.'

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Four things from the ways of the pre-Islamic period remain among my community and they will not abandon them: boasting about pedigrees, attacking lineages, seeking rain by the stars, and loud wailing (at funerals).'

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Four traits — whoever possesses them is a complete hypocrite, and whoever has a single one of them has a trait of hypocrisy until he abandons it: when he speaks he lies; when he promises he breaks his promise; when he makes a covenant he betrays it; and when he disputes he behaves obscenely/immorally.'

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Act, for everyone is facilitated to that for which he was created.'

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'The souls are assembled troops: those that recognize one another unite, and those that are alien to one another differ.'

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Faith has seventy-odd or sixty-odd branches. The best of them is the declaration “There is no god but Allah,” and the least of them is removing harmful things from the road. Modesty (al-haya) is a branch of faith.'

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'The wind is from the winds of Allah; it brings mercy and it brings punishment. So when you see it do not curse it; ask Allah for its good and seek refuge in Allah from its evil.'

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'The strong believer is better and more beloved to Allah than the weak believer, though there is good in both. Strive for what benefits you, seek help from Allah and do not be helpless. If something befalls you, do not say “If only I had done such-and-such it would have been such-and-such,” but say “Allah decreed and what He wills He does,” for “if only” opens the door to the work of the devil.'

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Allah the Exalted has pardoned my Ummah for what they think to themselves, so long as they do not speak of it or act upon it.'

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Allah the Exalted has pardoned my Ummah for mistakes, for forgetfulness, and for what they are coerced into.'

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'When Allah the Exalted created the creation He wrote with His Hand upon Himself: “My mercy precedes My wrath.”'

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Indeed Allah the Exalted grants respite to the wrongdoer, and when He seizes him He does not let him escape.'

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Actions are judged by intentions, and every person will have only what he intended. Whoever's migration was for Allah and His Messenger, then his migration is for Allah and His Messenger; and whoever's migration was for some worldly gain or to marry a woman, then his migration is for what he migrated for.'

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Beware of excessiveness in religion, for it was excessiveness in religion that destroyed those before you.'

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'The sign of the hypocrite is three: when he speaks he lies; when he promises he breaks it; and when he is entrusted he betrays.'

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Allah made mercy one hundred parts; He withheld ninety-nine parts with Himself and sent down one part to the earth. From that one part the creatures show mercy to one another, to the extent that the mare lifts her hoof from her foal out of fear of harming it.'

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'The people of the Age of Ignorance used to say: “Omens are only in the woman, the house, and the animal.”'

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Allah the Exalted said: “If My servant intends a good deed and does not do it, I record it for him as a full good deed; and if he does it I record it for him as ten good deeds up to seven hundred times. If he intends an evil deed and does not do it, I do not record it against him; but if he does it I record it as one evil deed.”'

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Allah the Exalted said: “Pride is My cloak and greatness is My wrapper; whoever disputes with Me over either of these, I will cast him into the Fire.”'

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Allah, the Exalted, said: My mercy precedes My wrath.'

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'There was a prophet among the prophets who used to write; whoever's writing matched his, that one.'

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'There is no faith for the one who has no trustworthiness, and no religion for the one who has no covenant.'

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'There will not remain on the neck of a camel a single-strand (watar) collar or any necklace except that it will be cut off.'

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'None of you truly believes until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself.'

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Whoever is pleased by his good deed and distressed by his bad deed — that is the believer.'

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'By Him in Whose Hand my soul is, you will not enter Paradise until you believe, and you will not believe until you love one another. Shall I not tell you something which, if you do it, you will love one another? Spread the greeting of peace among yourselves.'

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Those who go to extremes are ruined.'

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'O people, you will not be able to do everything you are commanded, but be moderate, come as close as you can, and give glad tidings.'

Chapter Two: Knowledge and the Scholars

The Prophet ﷺ said: 'May Allah bless a man who heard something from us and conveyed it as he heard it; for perhaps the one to whom it is conveyed understands more than the one who heard.'

Chapter Three: Tribulations and the Signs of the Hour

When Kisra is destroyed there will be no Kisra after him, and when Caesar is destroyed there will be no Caesar after him; by Him in Whose hand my soul is, their treasures will surely be spent in the way of Allah.

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: If you see my Ummah afraid to tell the oppressor, 'You are unjust,' then you will be abandoned by them.

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: The trial of a man regarding his family, his wealth, his self, his children and his neighbor is expiated by fasting, prayer, charity, enjoining what is good and forbidding what is evil.

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: I have left you upon a clear path whose night is like its day; no one will deviate from it after me except one who is destroyed. Whoever of you lives will see much dispute, so hold to what you know of my Sunnah and the Sunnah of the rightly-guided, rightly-guiding caliphs, and cling to it with your molar teeth.

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Do not differ, for those who were before you differed and perished.

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Whenever sins are practiced among a people, they grow arrogant and obstinate in them, and they will not reform except when Allah overwhelms them with punishment.

Chapter Four: the Resurrection, Paradise, and Hell

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'The first matter that will be judged among the people on the Day of Resurrection is bloodshed.'

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Three will not enter Paradise: a habitual drinker of intoxicants, one who severs the ties of kinship, and one who believes in magic.'

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'A woman entered Hell because of a cat which she had tied up; she neither fed it nor let it eat from the vermin of the earth until it died.'

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'If the believer knew what punishment Allah has in store, no one would hope for his Paradise; and if the disbeliever knew what mercy Allah has in store, no one would despair of his Paradise.'
