يَا إِمَامَ الرُّسُلِ يَا سَنَدِي

يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ خُذْ بِيَدِي — الشيخ عبد الرحيم البُرَعي اليماني (ت 803هـ)

من أشهر قصائد الشيخ عبد الرحيم البُرَعي اليماني، تُنشد بلازمتها المشهورة «يا إمام الرسل يا سندي… يا رسول الله خذ بيدي» في مجالس المديح في أرجاء العالم الإسلامي، وتفيض توسلًا واستغاثة بجاه النبي ﷺ وثناءً على شمائله.

Yā Imām ar-Rusli yā Sanadī — Shaykh ʿAbd ar-Raḥīm al-Buraʿī of Yemen

One of the most famous poems of Shaykh Abd ar-Rahim al-Bura'i of Yemen, sung with its beloved refrain 'O Leader of the Messengers, O my support… O Messenger of Allah, take my hand' in gatherings of praise across the Muslim world. It overflows with heartfelt entreaty through the rank of the Prophet ﷺ and praise of his noble qualities.

يَا إِمَامَ الرُّسُلِ يَا سَنَدِي
أَنْتَ بَابُ اللهِ مُعْتَمَدِي

O Leader of the Messengers, my support, you are the very door to God and my ultimate reliance.

فَبِدُنْيَايَ وَآخِرَتِي
يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ خُذْ بِيَدِي

Therefore, in both my worldly life and my afterlife, O Messenger of God, take my hand.

قَسَمًا بِالنَّجْمِ حِينَ هَوَى
مَا الْمُعَافَى وَالسَّقِيمُ سَوَا

By the star when it descended, I swear that the healthy and the sick are not equal.

فَاخْلَعِ الْكَوْنَيْنِ عَنْكَ سِوَى
حُبِّ مَوْلَى الْعُرْبِ وَالْعَجَمِ

So divest yourself of both worlds, retaining nothing but the love for the Master of all Arabs and non-Arabs.

يَا إِمَامَ الرُّسُلِ يَا سَنَدِي
أَنْتَ بَابُ اللهِ مُعْتَمَدِي

O Leader of the Messengers, my support, you are the very door to God and my ultimate reliance.

فَبِدُنْيَايَ وَآخِرَتِي
يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ خُذْ بِيَدِي

Therefore, in both my worldly life and my afterlife, O Messenger of God, take my hand.

سَيِّدُ السَّادَاتِ مِنْ مُضَرٍ
غَوْثُ أَهْلِ الْبَدْوِ وَالْحَضَرِ

He is the Master of masters from the tribe of Mudar, the succor for both the desert dwellers and the city folk.

صَاحِبُ الْآيَاتِ وَالسُّوَرِ
مَنْبَعُ الْأَحْكَامِ وَالْحِكَمِ

He is the one graced with divine signs and chapters, the very fount of sacred laws and profound wisdom.

يَا إِمَامَ الرُّسُلِ يَا سَنَدِي
أَنْتَ بَابُ اللهِ مُعْتَمَدِي

O Leader of the Messengers, my support, you are the very door to God and my ultimate reliance.

فَبِدُنْيَايَ وَآخِرَتِي
يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ خُذْ بِيَدِي

Therefore, in both my worldly life and my afterlife, O Messenger of God, take my hand.

قَمَرٌ طَابَتْ سَرِيرَتُهُ
وَسَجَايَاهُ وَسِيرَتُهُ

He is like a moon, whose inner being is pure, and whose character and conduct are utterly excellent.

صَفْوَةُ الْبَارِي وَخِيرَتُهُ
عَدْلُ أَهْلِ الْحِلِّ وَالْحَرَمِ

He is the Creator's chosen and finest selection, the embodiment of justice for all people, whether in sacred or ordinary lands.

يَا إِمَامَ الرُّسُلِ يَا سَنَدِي
أَنْتَ بَابُ اللهِ مُعْتَمَدِي

O Leader of the Messengers, my support, you are the very door to God and my ultimate reliance.

فَبِدُنْيَايَ وَآخِرَتِي
يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ خُذْ بِيَدِي

Therefore, in both my worldly life and my afterlife, O Messenger of God, take my hand.

مَا رَأَتْ عَيْنٌ وَلَيْسَ تَرَى
مِثْلَ طَهَ فِي الْوَرَى بَشَرَا

No eye has ever seen, nor will it ever see, a human being among creation like Taha.

خَيْرُ مَنْ فَوْقَ الثَّرَى أَثَرَا
طَاهِرُ الْأَخْلَاقِ وَالشِّيَمِ

He is the best of all who have left their mark upon the earth, pure in his morals and noble in his disposition.
