قصيدة أحمد شوقي في المولد النبوي الشريف، عارض بها همزية البوصيري، ومطلعها الخالد: «وُلد الهدى فالكائنات ضياء». من أكثر قصائد المديح حضورًا في الاحتفال بالمولد النبوي.
Wulida al-Hudā — Ahmad Shawqī, Prince of Poets
Ahmed Shawqi's poem, composed for the noble Prophet's Birthday, is a magnificent work that emulates Al-Busiri's Hamziyya. Its immortal opening verse, 'The Guidance was born, so the universe is light,' is widely recognized. This poem remains one of the most prominent and frequently recited panegyrics during the celebration of the Prophet's ﷺ birth.
وُلِدَ الهُدى فَالكائِناتُ ضِياءُ
وَفَمُ الزَمانِ تَبَسُّمٌ وَثَناءُWhen Guidance was born, all creation became light, and the mouth of time itself became a smile and a song of praise.
الروحُ وَالمَلَأُ المَلائِكُ حَولَهُ
لِلدينِ وَالدُنيا بِهِ بُشَراءُThe Spirit and the angelic host surrounded him, bringing glad tidings for both faith and the world through his advent.
وَالعَرشُ يَزهو وَالحَظيرَةُ تَزدَهي
وَالمُنتَهى وَالسِدرَةُ العَصماءُThe Divine Throne gleams, the Sacred Enclosure flourishes, and the Utmost Boundary with its Lofty Lote Tree is adorned in splendor.
وَحَديقَةُ الفُرقانِ ضاحِكَةُ الرُبا
بِالتُرجُمانِ شَذِيَّةٌ غَنّاءُThe garden of the Criterion (Quran) has its hills smiling, made fragrant and melodious by its Interpreter ﷺ.
وَالوَحيُ يَقطُرُ سَلسَلًا مِن سَلسَلٍ
وَاللَوحُ وَالقَلَمُ البَديعُ رُواءُRevelation drips forth as a pure, flowing stream, quenching the thirst of the Preserved Tablet and the wondrous Pen.
نُظِمَت أَسامي الرُسلِ فَهيَ صَحيفَةٌ
في اللَوحِ وَاسمُ مُحَمَّدٍ طُغَراءُThe names of the Messengers are inscribed as a scroll upon the Preserved Tablet, with the name of Muhammad ﷺ as its magnificent royal cipher.
اسمُ الجَلالَةِ في بَديعِ حُروفِهِ
أَلِفٌ هُنالِكَ وَاسمُ طَهَ الباءُThe Name of Majesty, in its wondrous letters, finds its Alif there, while the name Taha ﷺ embodies its Ba.
يا خَيرَ مَن جاءَ الوُجودَ تَحِيَّةً
مِن مُرسَلينَ إِلى الهُدى بِكَ جاؤواO best of all who came into being, receive salutations from Messengers who, through you, brought forth guidance.
بَيتُ النَبِيّينَ الَّذي لا يَلتَقي
إِلّا الحَنائِفُ فيهِ وَالحُنَفاءُThis is the house of Prophets, where none gather save the upright and the pure monotheists.
خَيرُ الأُبُوَّةِ حازَهُمْ لَكَ آدَمٌ
دونَ الأَنامِ وَأَحرَزَت حَوّاءُAdam secured for you the noblest lineage of fatherhood above all mankind, and Eve likewise attained it.
هُم أَدرَكوا عِزَّ النُبُوَّةِ وَانتَهَت
فيها إِلَيكَ العِزَّةُ القَعساءُThey grasped the glory of prophethood, yet in you, that supreme and lofty glory reached its ultimate culmination.
خُلِقَت لِبَيتِكَ وَهوَ مَخلوقٌ لَها
إِنَّ العَظائِمَ كُفؤُها العُظَماءُThis glory was created for your house, and your house was created for it, for truly, great things are always befitting of the great.
بِكَ بَشَّرَ اللَهُ السَماءَ فَزُيِّنَت
وَتَضَوَّعَت مِسكًا بِكَ الغَبراءُThrough you, Allah gave glad tidings to the heavens, adorning them, and through you, the very dust of the earth became fragrant with musk.
وَبَدا مُحَيّاكَ الَّذي قَسَماتُهُ
حَقٌّ وَغُرَّتُهُ هُدىً وَحَياءُAnd your countenance ﷺ appeared, whose features are truth itself, and whose radiant forehead shines with guidance and modesty.
وَعَلَيهِ مِن نورِ النُبُوَّةِ رَونَقٌ
وَمِنَ الخَليلِ وَهَديِهِ سيماءُUpon him ﷺ rests a splendor from the light of prophethood, bearing also the distinguishing mark of the Friend (Abraham) and his guidance.
أَثنى المَسيحُ عَلَيهِ خَلفَ سَمائِهِ
وَتَهَلَّلَت وَاهتَزَّتِ العَذراءُThe Messiah praised him ﷺ from beyond his heaven, and the Virgin (Mary) rejoiced and trembled with awe.
يَومٌ يَتيهُ عَلى الزَمانِ صَباحُهُ
وَمَساؤُهُ بِمُحَمَّدٍ وَضّاءُIt is a day whose morning boasts over all time, and whose evening is made radiant by Muhammad ﷺ.
الحَقُّ عالي الرُكنِ فيهِ مُظَفَّرٌ
في المُلكِ لا يَعلو عَلَيهِ لِواءُOn this day, Truth, with its lofty pillar, is victorious, and in its dominion, no banner shall ever rise above it.
ذُعِرَت عُروشُ الظالِمينَ فَزُلزِلَت
وَعَلَت عَلى تيجانِهِم أَصداءُThe thrones of the oppressors were struck with terror and shaken, and echoes of their downfall rose above their very crowns.
وَالنارُ خاوِيَةُ الجَوانِبِ حَولَهُمْ
خَمَدَت ذَوائِبُها وَغاضَ الماءُAnd the fire, desolate on all sides around them, saw its flames die down, while the waters receded.
وَالآيُ تَترى وَالخَوارِقُ جَمَّةٌ
جِبريلُ رَوّاحٌ بِها غَدّاءُThe signs followed one another and miracles were abundant, with Gabriel bringing them morning and evening.
نِعمَ اليَتيمُ بَدَت مَخايِلُ فَضلِهِ
وَاليُتمُ رِزقٌ بَعضُهُ وَذَكاءُWhat an excellent orphan, whose signs of virtue were manifest, for orphanhood itself is a blessing, partly a divine provision and partly a source of keen intellect.
في المَهدِ يُستَسقى الحَيا بِرَجائِهِ
وَبِقَصدِهِ تُستَدفَعُ البَأساءُEven in the cradle, rain was sought through hope in him, and by his intention, all adversity was repelled.
بِسِوى الأَمانَةِ في الصِبا وَالصِدقِ لَم
يَعرِفهُ أَهلُ الصِدقِ وَالأُمَناءُThe people of truth and the trustworthy knew him in his youth solely by his honesty and unwavering truthfulness.
يا مَن لَهُ الأَخلاقُ ما تَهوى العُلا
مِنها وَما يَتَعَشَّقُ الكُبَراءُO you, whose morals are such that nobility itself yearns for them, and the great ones are enamored by them.
لَو لَم تُقِم دينًا لَقامَت وَحدَها
دينًا تُضيءُ بِنورِهِ الآناءُHad you not established a religion, these very morals would have stood alone as a faith, illuminating all ages with their radiant light.
زانَتكَ في الخُلُقِ العَظيمِ شَمائِلٌ
يُغرى بِهِنَّ وَيولَعُ الكُرَماءُIn your magnificent character, you were adorned with noble traits that entice and captivate all generous souls.
أَمّا الجَمالُ فَأَنتَ شَمسُ سَمائِهِ
وَمَلاحَةُ الصِدّيقِ مِنكَ أَياءُAs for beauty, you are the very sun of its firmament, and the charm of the most truthful is but a reflection derived from you.
وَالحُسنُ مِن كَرَمِ الوُجوهِ وَخَيرُهُ
ما أوتِيَ القُوّادُ وَالزُعَماءُTrue beauty stems from the nobility of countenances, and its finest manifestation is that bestowed upon leaders and chiefs.
فَإِذا سَخَوتَ بَلَغتَ بِالجودِ المَدى
وَفَعَلتَ ما لا تَفعَلُ الأَنواءُWhen you were generous, your bounty reached its zenith, accomplishing what even the most abundant rain clouds could not.
وَإِذا عَفَوتَ فَقادِرًا وَمُقَدَّرًا
لا يَستَهينُ بِعَفوِكَ الجُهَلاءُAnd when you forgave, you did so with power and high esteem, such that even the ignorant dared not belittle your pardon.
وَإِذا رَحِمتَ فَأَنتَ أُمٌّ أَو أَبٌ
هَذانِ في الدُنيا هُما الرُحَماءُAnd when you showed mercy, you were like a mother or a father, for these two are the most compassionate beings in the world.
وَإِذا غَضِبتَ فَإِنَّما هِيَ غَضبَةٌ
في الحَقِّ لا ضِغنٌ وَلا بَغضاءُAnd when you were angered, it was solely for the sake of truth, devoid of any malice or animosity.
وَإِذا رَضيتَ فَذاكَ في مَرضاتِهِ
وَرِضا الكَثيرِ تَحَلُّمٌ وَرِياءُAnd when you were pleased, it was always in accordance with His divine pleasure, unlike the contentment of many, which is often but pretense and hypocrisy.
وَإِذا خَطَبتَ فَلِلمَنابِرِ هِزَّةٌ
تَعرو النَدِيَّ وَلِلقُلوبِ بُكاءُAnd when you delivered a sermon, the pulpits would tremble, a tremor would seize the assembly, and hearts would weep.
وَإِذا قَضَيتَ فَلا ارتِيابَ كَأَنَّما
جاءَ الخُصومَ مِنَ السَماءِ قَضاءُAnd when you judged, there was no room for doubt, as if the verdict had descended upon the litigants directly from the heavens.
وَإِذا حَمَيتَ الماءَ لَم يورَد وَلَو
أَنَّ القَياصِرَ وَالمُلوكَ ظِماءُAnd if you protected water, none would dare approach it, even if emperors and kings were parched with thirst.
وَإِذا أَجَرتَ فَأَنتَ بَيتُ اللهِ لَم
يَدخُل عَلَيهِ المُستَجيرَ عَداءُAnd if you granted protection, you were like the House of God itself, where no enmity could ever reach the one seeking refuge within its bounds.
وَإِذا مَلَكتَ النَفسَ قُمتَ بِبِرِّها
وَلَوَ اَنَّ ما مَلَكَت يَداكَ الشاءُAnd if you possessed a soul, you would treat it with utmost kindness, even if what your hands owned were but humble sheep.
وَإِذا بَنَيتَ فَخَيرُ زَوجٍ عِشرَةً
وَإِذا ابتَنَيتَ فَدونَكَ الآباءُAnd when you built a family, you were the best companion as a husband, and when you established a legacy, all ancestors stood beneath your towering achievement.
وَإِذا صَحِبتَ رَأى الوَفاءَ مُجَسَّمًا
في بُردِكَ الأَصحابُ وَالخُلَطاءُWhen you were accompanied, your companions and associates saw loyalty personified within your very cloak.
وَإِذا أَخَذتَ العَهدَ أَو أَعطَيتَهُ
فَجَميعُ عَهدِكَ ذِمَّةٌ وَوَفاءُWhether you took a pledge or gave one, all your covenants were a sacred trust and fidelity.
وَإِذا مَشَيتَ إِلى العِدا فَغَضَنفَرٌ
وَإِذا جَرَيتَ فَإِنَّكَ النَكباءُWhen you advanced towards enemies, you were a lion, and when you charged, you were a devastating gale.
وَتَمُدُّ حِلمَكَ لِلسَفيهِ مُدارِيًا
حَتّى يَضيقَ بِعَرضِكَ السُفَهاءُYou extended your forbearance to the foolish with gentle diplomacy, until the foolish were overwhelmed by your magnanimity.
في كُلِّ نَفسٍ مِن سُطاكَ مَهابَةٌ
وَلِكُلِّ نَفسٍ في نَداكَ رَجاءُIn every soul, there was awe inspired by your majesty, and for every soul, there was hope in your generosity.
وَالرَأيُ لَم يُنضَ المُهَنَّدُ دونَهُ
كَالسَيفِ لَم تَضرِب بِهِ الآراءُThe sharp sword was not unsheathed without your judgment, for opinions do not strike with such force.
يا أَيُّها الأُمِيُّ حَسبُكَ رُتبَةً
في العِلمِ أَن دانَت بِكَ العُلَماءُO unlettered one, it is sufficient for your rank in knowledge that all scholars submitted to your wisdom.
الذِكرُ آيَةُ رَبِّكَ الكُبرى الَّتي
فيها لِباغي المُعجِزاتِ غَناءُThe Qur'an is your Lord's greatest sign, in which there is ample satisfaction for those who seek miracles.
صَدرُ البَيانِ لَهُ إِذا التَقَتِ اللُغى
وَتَقَدَّمَ البُلَغاءُ وَالفُصَحاءُThe forefront of eloquence belonged to him when languages converged and the most eloquent and articulate speakers came forth.
نُسِخَت بِهِ التَوراةُ وَهيَ وَضيئَةٌ
وَتَخَلَّفَ الإِنجيلُ وَهوَ ذُكاءُThe Torah, though radiant, was abrogated by it, and the Gospel, though brilliant, was superseded.
لَمّا تَمَشّى في الحِجازِ حَكيمُهُ
فُضَّت عُكاظُ بِهِ وَقامَ حِراءُWhen its wisdom spread through the Hijaz, Ukaz was dissolved by it, and Hira rose in prominence.
أَزرى بِمَنطِقِ أَهلِهِ وَبَيانِهِمْ
وَحيٌ يُقَصِّرُ دونَهُ البُلَغاءُA revelation, before which the most eloquent fall short, belittled the logic and rhetoric of its people.
حَسَدوا فَقالوا شاعِرٌ أَو ساحِرٌ
وَمِنَ الحَسودِ يَكونُ الاستِهزاءُThey envied, so they said, "A poet or a sorcerer," for mockery is born of the envious.
قَد نالَ بِالهادي الكَريمِ وَبِالهُدى
ما لَم تَنَل مِن سُؤدُدٍ سيناءُThrough the noble guide ﷺ and the divine guidance, it attained a glory that Sinai never achieved.
أَمسى كَأَنَّكَ مِن جَلالِكَ أُمَّةٌ
وَكَأَنَّهُ مِن أُنسِهِ بَيداءُYou became, by your majesty, like an entire nation, and the world, by its familiarity with you, became like a vast, open desert.
يوحى إِلَيكَ الفَوزُ في ظُلُماتِهِ
مُتَتابِعًا تُجلى بِهِ الظَلماءُVictory was revealed to you amidst its darkness, coming successively, by which all gloom was dispelled.
دينٌ يُشَيَّدُ آيَةً في آيَةٍ
لَبِناتُهُ السوراتُ وَالأَدواءُA religion is being built, sign upon sign, with its bricks being the surahs and the remedies.
الحَقُّ فيهِ هُوَ الأَساسُ وَكَيفَ لا
وَاللهُ جَلَّ جَلالُهُ البَنّاءُTruth is its foundation, and how could it not be, when Allah, glorified be His majesty, is the Builder?
أَمّا حَديثُكَ في العُقولِ فَمَشرَعٌ
وَالعِلمُ وَالحِكَمُ الغَوالي الماءُAs for your discourse in minds, it is a watering place, and knowledge and precious wisdom are its invaluable water.
هُوَ صِبغَةُ الفُرقانِ نَفحَةُ قُدسِهِ
وَالسينُ مِن سَوراتِهِ وَالراءُIt is the very essence of the Criterion, the breath of its sanctity, with even the 'Seen' and 'Ra' being from its sacred chapters.
جَرَتِ الفَصاحَةُ مِن يَنابيعَ النُهى
مِن دَوحِهِ وَتَفَجَّرَ الإِنشاءُFrom his noble origin, eloquence flowed from the springs of wisdom, and composition burst forth.
في بَحرِهِ لِلسابِحينَ بِهِ عَلى
أَدَبِ الحَياةِ وَعِلمِها إِرساءُIn his vast sea, for those who navigate its depths, there is a firm anchoring upon the ethics and knowledge of life.
أَتَتِ الدُهورُ عَلى سُلافَتِهِ وَلَم
تَفنَ السُلافُ وَلا سَلا النُدَماءُAges have passed over his choicest essence, yet that essence has not perished, nor have its companions ever grown weary.
بِكَ يا ابنَ عَبدِ اللهِ قامَت سَمحَةٌ
بِالحَقِّ مِن مَلَلِ الهُدى غَرّاءُThrough you, O son of Abdullah ﷺ, a tolerant and brilliant way, founded upon truth, arose from the weariness of guidance.
بُنِيَت عَلى التَوحيدِ وَهيَ حَقيقَةٌ
نادى بِها سُقراطُ وَالقُدَماءُIt was built upon the principle of monotheism, a truth that Socrates and the ancients had also proclaimed.
وَجَدَ الزُعافَ مِنَ السُمومِ لِأَجلِها
كَالشَهدِ ثُمَّ تَتابَعَ الشُهَداءُFor its sake, they found the deadliest poisons to be as sweet as honey, and then the martyrs followed one after another.
وَمَشى عَلى وَجهِ الزَمانِ بِنورِها
كُهّانُ وادي النيلِ وَالعُرَفاءُBy its light, the priests of the Nile Valley and the knowledgeable ones walked upon the face of time.
إيزيسُ ذاتُ المُلكِ حينَ تَوَحَّدَت
أَخَذَت قِوامَ أُمورِها الأَشياءُWhen Isis, the sovereign, embraced monotheism, all her affairs found their proper order.
لَمّا دَعَوتَ الناسَ لَبّى عاقِلٌ
وَأَصَمَّ مِنكَ الجاهِلينَ نِداءُWhen you called the people, the wise responded, yet your call deafened the ignorant.
أَبَوا الخُروجَ إِلَيكَ مِن أَوهامِهِمْ
وَالناسُ في أَوهامِهِمْ سُجَناءُThey refused to emerge from their illusions to join you, for people are often prisoners within their own delusions.
وَمِنَ العُقولِ جَداوِلٌ وَجَلامِدٌ
وَمِنَ النُفوسِ حَرائِرٌ وَإِماءُAmong minds, there are flowing streams and solid rocks, and among souls, there are the free and the enslaved.
داءُ الجَماعَةِ مِن أَرِسطاليسَ لَم
يوصَف لَهُ حَتّى أَتَيتَ دَواءُThe ailment of society, which persisted since Aristotle's time, had no prescribed cure until you ﷺ arrived.
فَرَسَمتَ بَعدَكَ لِلعِبادِ حُكومَةً
لا سوقَةٌ فيها وَلا أُمَراءُThus, you ﷺ outlined for humanity a government that would follow you, one in which there are neither common subjects nor ruling princes in the traditional sense.
اللهُ فَوقَ الخَلقِ فيها وَحدَهُ
وَالناسُ تَحتَ لِوائِها أَكفاءُIn this government, God alone is above all creation, and all people beneath its banner are equals.
وَالدينُ يُسرٌ وَالخِلافَةُ بَيعَةٌ
وَالأَمرُ شورى وَالحُقوقُ قَضاءُAnd religion is ease, the caliphate is a pledge of allegiance, governance is by consultation, and rights are secured by justice.
الإِشتِراكِيّونَ أَنتَ إِمامُهُمْ
لَولا دَعاوي القَومِ وَالغُلَواءُYou ﷺ are the true leader of the socialists, were it not for the exaggerated claims and extremism of some people.
داوَيتَ مُتَّئِدًا وَداوَوا ظَفرَةً
وَأَخَفُّ مِن بَعضِ الدَواءِ الداءُYou ﷺ healed with patience and deliberation, while others sought to heal with haste, and indeed, sometimes the ailment itself is lighter than some of its proposed cures.
الحَربُ في حَقٍّ لَدَيكَ شَريعَةٌ
وَمِنَ السُمومِ الناقِعاتِ دَواءُFor you ﷺ, war in a just cause is a divine law, and it can be a cure derived from the deadliest poisons.
وَالبِرُّ عِندَكَ ذِمَّةٌ وَفَريضَةٌ
لا مِنَّةٌ مَمنونَةٌ وَجَباءُAnd righteousness, in your ﷺ view, is a sacred trust and an obligation, not a favor to be boasted about or a mere tax to be collected.
جاءَت فَوَحَّدَتِ الزَكاةُ سَبيلَهُ
حَتّى التَقى الكُرَماءُ وَالبُخَلاءُIt came, and Zakat unified its path, bringing together even the generous and the stingy.
أَنصَفَت أَهلَ الفَقرِ مِن أَهلِ الغِنى
فَالكُلُّ في حَقِّ الحَياةِ سَواءُYou ﷺ brought justice to the poor against the rich, for all are equal in the right to life.
فَلَوَ اَنَّ إِنسانًا تَخَيَّرَ مِلَّةً
ما اختارَ إِلّا دينَكَ الفُقَراءُIf a person were to choose a faith, the poor would choose none but your religion ﷺ.
يا أيُّها المُسرى بِهِ شَرَفًا إِلى
ما لا تَنالُ الشَمسُ وَالجَوزاءُO you ﷺ who was journeyed with in honor to heights beyond the reach of the sun and the Gemini constellation.
يَتَساءَلونَ وَأَنتَ أَطهَرُ هَيكَلٍ
بِالروحِ أَم بِالهَيكَلِ الإِسراءُThey question whether the Night Journey was by spirit or by body, while you ﷺ are the purest form.
بِهِما سَمَوتَ مُطَهَّرَينِ كِلاهُما
نورٌ وَرَيحانِيَّةٌ وَبَهاءُBy both of them, you ﷺ ascended, both purified, embodying light, fragrance, and splendor.
فَضلٌ عَلَيكَ لِذي الجَلالِ وَمِنَّةٌ
وَاللهُ يَفعَلُ ما يَرى وَيَشاءُIt is a grace and a favor upon you ﷺ from the Lord of Majesty, for Allah does what He deems fit and wills.
تَغشى الغُيوبَ مِنَ العَوالِمِ كُلَّما
طُوِيَت سَماءٌ قُلِّدَتكَ سَماءُYou ﷺ traversed the unseen realms of the worlds, and with each heaven folded, another heaven adorned you.
في كُلِّ مِنطَقَةٍ حَواشي نورُها
نونٌ وَأَنتَ النُقطَةُ الزَهراءُIn every sphere, its luminous borders are "Nun," and you ﷺ are the radiant dot.
أَنتَ الجَمالُ بِها وَأَنتَ المُجتَلى
وَالكَفُّ وَالمِرآةُ وَالحَسناءُYou ﷺ are the beauty within it, the one revealed, the hand, the mirror, and the beautiful one.
اللهُ هَيَّأَ مِن حَظيرَةِ قُدسِهِ
نَزُلًا لِذاتِكَ لَم يَجُزهُ عَلاءُAllah prepared from His sacred sanctuary an abode for your essence ﷺ, whose loftiness no one surpassed.
العَرشُ تَحتَكَ سُدَّةً وَقَوائِمًا
وَمَناكِبُ الروحِ الأَمينِ وِطاءُThe Throne was beneath you ﷺ as a seat and its pillars, and the shoulders of the Trustworthy Spirit (Gabriel) served as a cushion.
وَالرُسلُ دونَ العَرشِ لَم يُؤذَن لَهُمْ
حاشا لِغَيرِكَ مَوعِدٌ وَلِقاءُAnd the messengers below the Throne were not permitted, for none but you ﷺ had such an appointment and a meeting.
الخَيلُ تَأبى غَيرَ أَحمَدَ حامِيًا
وَبِها إِذا ذُكِرَ اسمُهُ خُيَلاءُThe horses refuse any protector but Ahmad ﷺ, and pride fills them when his name is mentioned.
شَيخُ الفَوارِسِ يَعلَمونَ مَكانَهُ
إِن هَيَّجَت آسادَها الهَيجاءُHe ﷺ is the master of knights; they know his standing when battle stirs its lions.
وَإِذا تَصَدّى لِلظُبا فَمُهَنَّدٌ
أَو لِلرِماحِ فَصَعدَةٌ سَمراءُAnd if he ﷺ confronts swords, he is an Indian blade, or if he confronts spears, he is a dark-shafted spear.
وَإِذا رَمى عَن قَوسِهِ فَيَمينُهُ
قَدَرٌ وَما تُرمى اليَمينُ قَضاءُAnd if he ﷺ shoots from his bow, his right hand is destiny, and what his right hand casts is divine decree.
مِن كُلِّ داعي الحَقِّ هِمَّةُ سَيفِهِ
فَلِسَيفِهِ في الراسِياتِ مَضاءُFrom every caller to truth comes the resolve of his sword ﷺ, for his sword has penetration even into the firmest things.
ساقي الجَريحِ وَمُطعِمُ الأَسرى وَمَن
أَمِنَت سَنابِكَ خَيلِهِ الأَشلاءُHe ﷺ is the one who gives drink to the wounded, feeds the captives, and whose horse's hooves spared the scattered bodies.
إِنَّ الشَجاعَةَ في الرِجالِ غَلاظَةٌ
ما لَم تَزِنها رَأفَةٌ وَسَخاءُIndeed, courage in men is but harshness unless it is tempered by compassion and generosity.
وَالحَربُ مِن شَرَفِ الشُعوبِ فَإِن بَغَوا
فَالمَجدُ مِمّا يَدَّعونَ بَراءُAnd war is among the honor of nations, but if they transgress, then glory is innocent of what they claim.
وَالحَربُ يَبعَثُها القَوِيُّ تَجَبُّرًا
وَيَنوءُ تَحتَ بَلائِها الضُعَفاءُWar is ignited by the mighty in their arrogance, while the weak groan under its calamities.
كَم مِن غُزاةٍ لِلرَسولِ كَريمَةٍ
فيها رِضىً لِلحَقِّ أَو إِعلاءُHow many noble campaigns did the Messenger ﷺ undertake, in which there was satisfaction for truth or its exaltation.
كانَت لِجُندِ اللهِ فيها شِدَّةٌ
في إِثرِها لِلعالَمينَ رَخاءُIn those campaigns, God's soldiers faced hardship, but in their wake came ease for all worlds.
ضَرَبوا الضَلالَةَ ضَربَةٌ ذَهَبَت بِها
فَعَلى الجَهالَةِ وَالضَلالِ عَفاءُThey struck error with a blow that obliterated it, so upon ignorance and misguidance be utter ruin.
دَعَموا عَلى الحَربِ السَلامَ وَطالَما
حَقَنَت دِماءً في الزَمانِ دِماءُThey established peace upon war, and for so long, blood had shed blood throughout time.
الحَقُّ عِرضُ اللهِ كلُّ أَبِيَّةٍ
بَينَ النُفوسِ حِمىً لَهُ وَوِقارُTruth is God's honor, and every noble soul among people is a protector and reverer of it.
هَل كانَ حَولَ مُحَمَّدٍ مِن قَومِهِ
إِلا صَبِيٌّ واحِدٌ وَنِساءُWas there around Muhammad ﷺ from his people anything but a single boy and women?
فَدَعا فَلَبّى في القَبائِلِ عُصبَةٌ
مُستَضعَفونَ قَلائِلٌ أَنضاءُSo he called, and a group from the tribes responded, they were the weak, few in number, and worn out.
رَدّوا بِبَأسِ العَزمِ عَنهُ مِنَ الأَذى
ما لا تَرُدُّ الصَخرَةُ الصَمّاءُWith their fierce resolve, they repelled from him ﷺ such harm as even solid rock could not repel.
وَالحَقُّ وَالإيمانُ إِن صُبّا عَلى
بُردٍ فَفيهِ كَتيبَةٌ خَرساءُAnd if truth and faith were poured upon a cloak, it would contain a silent legion.
نَسَفوا بِناءَ الشِركِ فَهوَ خَرائِبٌ
وَاستَأصَلوا الأَصنامَ فَهيَ هَباءُThey demolished the edifice of polytheism, so it lies in ruins, and they uprooted the idols, so they are but dust.
يَمشونَ تُغضي الأَرضُ مِنهُمْ هَيبَةً
وَبِهِمْ حِيالَ نَعيمِها إِغضاءُThey walked, and the earth lowered its gaze in awe of them, and they, in turn, averted their gaze from its luxuries.
حَتّى إِذا فُتِحَت لَهُمْ أَطرافُها
لَم يُطغِهِمْ تَرَفٌ وَلا نَعماءُEven when its ends were opened to them, neither extravagance nor delights made them arrogant.
يا مَن لَهُ عِزُّ الشَفاعَةِ وَحدَهُ
وَهوَ المُنَزَّهُ ما لَهُ شُفَعاءُO you who alone possess the glory of intercession, while He (God) is transcendent, having no need for intercessors.
عَرشُ القِيامَةِ أَنتَ تَحتَ لِوائِهِ
وَالحَوضُ أَنتَ حِيالَهُ السَقاءُOn the Throne of Resurrection, you ﷺ will be beneath its banner, and at the Pond (Kawthar), you ﷺ will be the one who gives drink.
تَروي وَتَسقي الصالِحينَ ثَوابَهُمْ
وَالصالِحاتُ ذَخائِرٌ وَجَزاءُYou ﷺ will quench and give drink to the righteous their reward, for righteous deeds are treasures and recompense.
أَلِمِثلِ هَذا ذُقتَ في الدُنيا الطَوى
وَانشَقَّ مِن خَلَقٍ عَلَيكَ رِداءُWas it for such a destiny that you ﷺ tasted hunger in this world, and a worn-out cloak was torn upon you?
لي في مَديحِكَ يا رَسولُ عَرائِسٌ
تُيِّمنَ فيكَ وَشاقَهُنَّ جَلاءُI have in your praise, O Messenger ﷺ, brides (poems) who are captivated by you and yearn for their unveiling.
هُنَّ الحِسانُ فَإِن قَبِلتَ تَكَرُّمًا
فَمُهورُهُنَّ شَفاعَةٌ حَسناءُThey are beautiful, so if you ﷺ graciously accept them, their dowry will be a beautiful intercession.
أَنتَ الَّذي نَظَمَ البَرِيَّةَ دينُهُ
ماذا يَقولُ وَيَنظُمُ الشُعَراءُYou ﷺ are the one whose religion organized all creation; what then can poets say or compose?
المُصلِحونَ أَصابِعٌ جُمِعَت يَدًا
هِيَ أَنتَ بَل أَنتَ اليَدُ البَيضاءُThe reformers are but fingers gathered into a hand, and that hand is you, nay, you are the miraculous, bounteous hand itself.
ما جِئتُ بابَكَ مادِحًا بَل داعِيًا
وَمِنَ المَديحِ تَضَرُّعٌ وَدُعاءُI have not come to your door as a mere praiser, but as one who supplicates, for indeed, from praise itself springs forth humble entreaty and prayer.
أَدعوكَ عَن قَومي الضِعافِ لِأَزمَةٍ
في مِثلِها يُلقى عَلَيكَ رَجاءُI call upon you ﷺ on behalf of my weak people, facing a crisis in which hope, in such dire straits, is cast upon none other than you.
أَدرى رَسولُ اللهِ أَنَّ نُفوسَهُمْ
رَكِبَت هَواها وَالقُلوبُ هَواءُThe Messenger of Allah ﷺ knows well that their souls have succumbed to their whims, and their hearts are but empty vessels, easily swayed.
مُتَفَكِّكونَ فَما تَضُمُّ نُفوسَهُمْ
ثِقَةٌ وَلا جَمَعَ القُلوبَ صَفاءُThey are fragmented, their souls bound by no trust, nor have their hearts been united by purity of intention.
رَقَدوا وَغَرَّهُمُ نَعيمٌ باطِلٌ
وَنَعيمُ قَومٍ في القُيودِ بَلاءُThey have fallen into slumber, deceived by a fleeting, false comfort, yet the comfort of a people held in chains is nothing but a severe tribulation.
ظَلَموا شَريعَتَكَ الَّتي نِلنا بِها
ما لَم يَنَل في رومَةَ الفُقَهاءُThey have wronged your divine law, ﷺ, through which we achieved what the jurists in Rome, with all their wisdom, could never attain.
مَشَتِ الحَضارَةُ في سَناها وَاهتَدى
في الدينِ وَالدُنيا بِها السُعَداءُCivilization itself advanced in its radiant light, and the blessed found guidance through it in matters of faith and the affairs of this world.
صَلّى عَلَيكَ اللهُ ما صَحِبَ الدُجى
حادٍ وَحَنَّت بِالفَلا وَجناءُMay Allah send blessings upon you ﷺ as long as a camel driver accompanies the night's darkness with his song, and a strong she-camel yearns in the vast wilderness.
وَاستَقبَلَ الرِضوانَ في غُرُفاتِهِمْ
بِجِنانِ عَدنٍ آلُكَ السُمَحاءُAnd your noble, generous family ﷺ met with divine pleasure in their lofty chambers within the Gardens of Eden.
خَيرُ الوَسائِلِ مَن يَقَع مِنهُم عَلى
سَبَبٍ إِلَيكَ فَحَسبِيَ الزَهراءُThe best of all means is to find a connection to you ﷺ through one of your noble kin, and for me, Al-Zahra (Fatima) suffices as that cherished link.
