His noble lineage
He is Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn ʿAbd al-Muttalib ibn Hashim ibn ʿAbd Manaf ibn Qusayy ibn Kilab ibn Murrah ibn Kaʿb ibn Luʿayy ibn Ghalib ibn Fihr ibn Malik ibn al-Nadr ibn Kinana ibn Khuzaymah ibn Mudrikah ibn Ilyas ibn Mudar ibn Nizar ibn Maʿad ibn ʿAdnan, going back to Isma'il, son of al-Khalil Ibrahim, peace be upon them.
The nobility of his lineage ﷺ
The Prophet ﷺ said: “Indeed Allah chose Kinanah from the descendants of Isma'il, and He chose Quraysh from Kinanah, and He chose from Quraysh Banu Hashim, and He chose me from Banu Hashim.” — [Muslim]. And the Prophet ﷺ said: “I am Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn ʿAbd al-Muttalib. Indeed Allah created humankind and placed me among the best of His creation; then He made them into two groups and placed me among the best of the two groups; then He made them into tribes and placed me among the best of the tribes; then He made them into households and placed me among the best of their households, both as a person and as a household.” — [al-Tirmidhi].
- His father: ʿAbdullah ibn ʿAbd al-Muttalib — died before his (the Prophet's) birth ﷺ
- His mother: Amina bint Wahb ibn ʿAbd Manaf al-Zuhriyya — she died when he was six years old
- His grandfather: ʿAbd al-Muttalib (Shaybah al-Hamd) — cared for him for two years, then died
- His uncle: Abu Talib — cared for him after his grandfather until the advent of the Prophethood and thereafter
- Among the noblest of the Arabs by lineage: Hashim from Quraysh, Quraysh from Mudar, and Mudar from ʿAdnan
