His caretakers and wet-nurses ﷺ
The first to nurse him ﷺ was his mother, Lady Amina al‑Zahriyya, then Thuwaiba al‑Aslamiyya — the mawla of Abu Lahab — who nursed him for a few days, and then Hālima al‑Saʿdiyya al‑Hawāziniyya who took care of him in the desert until he reached four years. Umm Ayman Barakah al‑Habashiyya looked after him ﷺ for a long time and he used to call her: "My mother after my mother."
- Amina bint Wahb — his mother ﷺ; she nursed him at his birth
- Thuwaiba al‑Aslamiyya — the mawla of Abu Lahab; she nursed him for a few days before Hālima
- Hālima al‑Saʿdiyya — his wet‑nurse in the desert; the most well known of them
- Umm Ayman Barakah al‑Habashiyya — his caretaker ﷺ; he honored her and would say: "She is the remaining member of my household."
The blessing(s) of Hālima al‑Saʿdiyya
Hālima said: "I went out in a shahbā' year — that is, a barren/dry year — with women from Banu Saʿd ibn Bakr seeking infants to nurse. When I took the child and nursed him he was satisfied, and the milk in my breast increased though it had been dry, and the hump of our camel became full again after it had been emaciated, so we knew he was a blessed child. When he returned to Banu Saʿd their land became fertile and their livestock increased. And the two angels opened his chest ﷺ when he was four years old in Hālima's house."
- Her breast was blessed when she nursed him — it had been dry before that
- Her camel and livestock were blessed — they produced abundant milk after the drought
- The land of Banu Saʿd was blessed — it became green and fruitful after famine
- The first opening of the chest: Jibril and Mika'il came when he was four years old in her care
