His state ﷺ before the Prophethood
His piety and chastity before the Prophethood
Before the Prophethood he ﷺ was devout and worshipful; he loathed idols, detested the forbidden, and avoided indecency and evil. He would not eat what was slaughtered on the anṣāb (idolatrous altars). Divine protection preserved him ﷺ from anything blameworthy — twice he intended to listen to amusements but sleep overtook him; he never testified in favor of an idol nor ever drank wine.
- He was nicknamed 'al-Amin' because of his extreme trustworthiness and truthfulness before the Prophethood
- He avoided idols and what was slaughtered on the anṣāb (idolatrous altars)
- He used to withdraw to the Cave of Hira for worship and contemplation
- God preserved him from frivolity, idle talk, and lewdness before the Prophethood
Hilf al-Fudul before the Prophethood
Before the Prophethood ﷺ he participated in Hilf al-Fudul, an alliance formed in the house of 'Abdullah ibn Jud'aan to support the oppressed and to restore rights to their owners in Mecca. When he ﷺ became a Prophet he said: 'I witnessed in the house of 'Abdullah ibn Jud'aan an alliance which I would have dearly liked to have its red camels; and if it were called upon in Islam I would have responded.'
- He witnessed Hilf al-Fudul in the house of Ibn Jud'aan before the Prophethood
- He praised it after the Prophethood and stated that if he had been invited to it under Islam he would have responded
- The alliance was intended to support the oppressed and to restore rights to their owners in Mecca
